Kamilah Simmons (aka Mila Simmons) is a multidisciplinary artist and writer with a growing presence in the Southeast arts community. Working across collage, mixed media, and creative writing, she explores identity, memory, nostalgia, folklore, and the unseen.
Her visual practice combines found materials, photography, illustration, and text to create layered works that blur the line between the familiar and the otherworldly.
Her writing spans journalism, cultural commentary, and literature. She has contributed to AFROPUNK, Blu Magazine, MAP Madrid, Clubplanet, Ebony, and Camille’s Corner for Camille Rose Naturals, while also developing a body of fiction and poetry. Her experimental prose and fiction explore transformation, other realms, and the hidden magic of everyday life, with work featured in zines and literary collections.
Simmons' independent projects include Miyu, an online vintage shop rooted in material culture and nostalgia, and Dulcet, a collaborative art and writing zine. Her influences range from personal experience, dreams, and mythology to Art Deco, street art, Old Hollywood, and the raw energy of rock and roll.
